FG reiterates commitment to food security

The Federal Government of Nigeria has renewed its pledge to ensure the nation achieves sufficient food security.

Vice President Kashim Shettima made this known at the State House in Abuja during a high-profile stakeholder engagement organized by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) CGIAR.

In a statement posted by IITA on its X handle on Tuesday, the event aimed at bolstering public-private partnerships and policy engagements to enhance food security.

Shettima said, “President Bola Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to supporting both local and international food agencies to achieve this goal. The strategic meetings were designed to tackle the ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s food systems and agriculture sector, as well as across the continent.

“The overarching aim of these events was to ensure that Africa and the world at large achieve food sufficiency, with the ultimate goal of eradicating hunger.”

The IITA Board of Trustees convened to review the Institute’s 2024-2030 strategy, which focuses on addressing food and nutrition insecurity in Africa.

Additionally, the IITA Program Advisory Committee met to discuss key issues in line with the CGIAR Mega Programmes.

In his remarks, IITA Director General Mr. Ehui Simeon, reiterated the institute’s commitment to providing smallholder farmers with access to affordable innovations, such as improved crop varieties and best farming practices.

“Through IITA’s research and scaling efforts, these innovations aim to increase yields, boost food production, and improve livelihoods, thereby benefiting everyone on the continent”, Simeon said. To read kindly visit: https://punchng.com/fg-reiterates-commitment-to-food-security/
